What you have to understand is that the push to disavow creators with "problematic politics", ie, people who support shit you find unethical and reprehensible? 99% of the time, that creator made a bet to put their politics front and center, and gambled on you choosing to still consume their work because or at least despite said politics.
The notion that it's "cancel culture" to respond to that bet by going "nah, your (art/content/etc.) ain't good enough for that" is missing the point.
You as a consumer are not inherently entitled to the politics and internal morals of a creator. That's the baseline. But if the creator is publicly and loudly putting that shit out there for all to see, they're not a victim if their gamble back fires.
JKR is not a prosecuted figure because she's the one who decided to make her transphobia the most prominent part of her fucking brand.
Similarly, racist Karen on instagram loudly proclaiming to love ICE and drawing "Anime for Jesus" is not a victim because people took a look at her rant about "illegals" and went "FUCKING YICKES."
This is the thing that kills me, the inherent hypocrisy of the politics of hate: They're all so fucking proud and loud about how much they hate people, but they crumble into whiny, sobbing dirtstains the moment someone says "wow, you're a fucking asshole and I want nothing to do with you."
You told people you wanted them dead! Unprompted! Of your own volition! What the fuck did you expect would happen?
