It is lowkey horrifying watching the low literacy crowd embrace wholesale the child right movement without an ounce of research or even the tiniest bit of follow-through.
It's about legalizing having sex with children.
I know, I know, you personally spouting their talking points and writing unintelligible word salad posts full of navel gazing about parental abuse and power dynamics, you don't want to have sex with children or legalize such a thing.
But that is the end goal.
That's what the dog whistle is about.
It's not that children don't have human rights. Children very much have human rights. But due to their age some of their rights are deputized to their parents. Because we kind of agreed as a society that maybe saddling a twelve year old who doesn't fully understand how money works with credit card debt is a bad idea.
And also, crucially, because we generally think having sex with children should be a crime no matter how much the child insists they consent to it.
Does the system work perfectly? No! No it does not! Child abuse happens in all countries, under all religions, across all social classes.
But snappy shit like "watch people flounder to explain why something should be a human right but not for children or disabled people" is both disingenuous and manipulative and again. It's preying on under-served communities that are constantly bombarded with desires to erase their humanity - hi, disabled folk, how is the world shitting on you today - for the service of ruinous, horrible things.
Again, because you dig into their posts and their impassioned speeches, and they're not advocating for anything that's actually actionable. They're not addressing any real needs in the disability community. They're not engaging with the root causes of child abuse and actionable things to do that lead to tangible improvements. They're not championing any specific law or candidate or any kind of real engagement with politics or the institutions already in place.
It's just "children should have the same rights as adults and if you disagree you're a bigot!"
And blog after blog drowning in fucking dog whistles about how "arbitrary" age restrictions are, while ever so carefully avoiding mention of age of consent. Even though that's about the only one that matches their talking points because we all agree that it's a good thing payday loan sharks are not legally able to bamboozle a dumb sixteen year old working for tips.
